You'll feel right at home with me!: Lock Boxes A Metaphor For Today's Real Estate Market

Lock Boxes A Metaphor For Today's Real Estate Market

Just had to re-post this one. It kind of hit home with the brick wall of lockboxes.. Just a reminder to label.

Thank you Steve for your post and a laugh..

Seriously?  That's what I said out loud as I approached this collection of lockboxes for condos that I was showing to my buyer.

lock boxes

None of them were labeled.  How was I to know which one was the one I was looking for?  To not look like a total idiot in front of my client, I knelt down and took a stab at it.  I could eliminate certain lockboxes from my choices by type - I had a code - so now there were just several for me to choose from.  And guess what?  On my second attempt - I found the right one!!!!

I post this because after this experience and taking this photo, I realized that much of the confusion in buying and selling real estate comes from real estate agents themselves.  Our goal as agents should be to simplify real estate transactions - that's how we earn our commissions - making the experience as EASY as posslbe for our clients.

Just like this wall of lockboxes, the whole process of buying and selling a home can look like a perplexing task.  But with the right agent - it is really not that complicated at all.  Sometimes with experience, agents can forget that their knowledge of real estate will far exceed their clients'.  Even if a client is purchasing or selling their 2nd or 3rd home, it doesn't mean that this transaction will in any way, resemble those of the past.  Or maybe it's been so long since they've bought or sold that they just don't recall all the steps of the transaction.  Whatever the case - it's best to always focusing on creating a simple, relaxing transaction for your client - educate, inform, relax and inspire!

Don't make the process look like this wall of lockboxes.

LOL that is a funny picture. I could see how that could be a nightmare trying to find the right one

I agree with your outlook,  I believe in on making the transaction as stress free as possible for both the buyers and sellers.

This is just too funny.  Some agents just do not think.  Transactions do not need to be as stressful as some agents make it.

Thanks for the re-blog JodiAnn!  I did have to laugh - as did my client - at this lockbox mess!  And....as someone commented on the blog, it doesn't look very good to have all those lockboxes in the same place for everyone to see just how many of the homes are for sale!  I was so suprised by the confusion of all the different lock boxes - that didn't even cross my mind!

Hi JodiAnn - an excellent post to reblog as I'm sure most of us have encountered this situation.  It's particularly frustrating when you know the number of active listings is not as plentiful as the lockboxes on display.   More HOAs should take control of this issue.
